Another successful couple courtesy of Match.com. Their first date was in Albuquerque, New Mexico seeing the holiday lights. As Laura says, “so very pretty and strangely romantic for two people who don’t celebrate Christmas.” Shelley asked Laura to marry her after her nephew’s Bar Mitzvah. Shelley says, “I wanted to be in her life for the rest of mine. I wanted to experience the love and support of our family and friends, and have a grand ole party to celebrate.” Celebrate is what they certainly did. One comment that Laura made was, “what stands out for us as Seattle transplants, how lovely and normal most of the Seattle vendors were about two women marrying. ” That says a lot about Seattle and the community. I personally support gay marriage and hope that some day we can all just get along and have the same rights regardless of gender, sexual identity, race, etc!
Shelley and Laura got married on October 2, 2010 at 415 Westlake. This couple is a blast!! The weekend started off by having a drag/ugly bridesmaid dress/rehearsal dinner. Quite the event to have a Buca di Beppo. Family and friends came into Seattle from all over the country! This venue was perfect for this rowdy crowd. Singing, dancing and a great meal made the night a memorable one! The next evening was the actual ceremony and reception. This was the first time I had worked at 415 Westlake. It is a lovely space that has a lot of light and is clean and easy to decorate. Shelley and Laura did their own flowers, decor and music. The catering and cake was done by Starry Nights Catering. The Jewish ceremony was performed by friend and comedian Dana Goldberg. This included a Ketubah, the Jewish marriage document, as well as the breaking of the glass. Shelley and Laura did the chair dance, the hora and boogied through the night with their guests! Thank you to my awesome friend and second shooter Starr Samuelson.
