Shayna and Stefan met in spring 2009 at a board gaming group Shayna’s family and friends take turns hosting on Oahu, Hawaii. Stefan began attending the gaming group regularly and they began dating a few months after that. Later they decided to split up while Stefan joined the Coast Guard and Shayna focused on earning her degrees at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. They were always in contact. In winter 2012 Shayna went up to visit Stefan in Alaska where he was stationed and they have been together ever since.
The couple chose to marry at the Burke Museum because Shayna is an Anthropologist and she and Stefan have always been big lovers of history, culture, museums, and the general study of life in all forms. They have traveled the world (separately and together) and have always reveled in the strange and foreign cultures and things they have experienced. They both grew up going to every museum they could possibly drag their families to and still do so to this day. Museums are places of learning, remembrance, reflection, and enjoyment. Ultimately, they wanted to have a good time with their wedding and make sure their guests did as well. Besides, not everyone gets to be married under an Ichthyosaur.
