Jessica and Shirelle met in 2003 onboard USS Carl Vinson, CVN-70. They worked in different departments on the ship but lived in berthing’s next to each other. For Shirelle, the first time she saw Jessica walk across the berthing lounge, her world stopped and she knew that she had to get to know that lady who lived next door. Jessica hadn’t noticed quite yet. Luckily they were both assigned to work in the ships maintenance office. They became fast friends, inseparable from the beginning. Many people on the ship thought they were dating, but they weren’t, yet. They lost touch in 2006 when Jessica left the Navy and Shirelle moved to a new command. Shirelle returned from a tour in Iraq in 2008 and they reconnected, recognizing instantly that we never wanted to be apart again. Shirelle moved from VA to WA so that they could be together. After they had been together for 2 years they decided that they wanted to make a commitment to each other. They wanted to get married, but it wasn’t legal yet. They decided to pick out rings as a symbol of their commitment and wait until someday, hopefully, they would be allowed to get married. The day they picked up their rings, before Jessica was allowed to put her ring on, Shirelle asked Jessica to marry her. Of course the answer was YES.
They married 4 days after their 5 year anniversary.
